Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Global Mourning as Leaders from Canada, UK Express Grief over Tragedy

Following the Ahmedabad plane crash, several countries, including the UK, Ukraine, Canada, and Russia, have issued statements of condolence and solidarity. Their leaders have expressed deep grief over the tragic loss of lives, offering support to the affected families and acknowledging the global impact of the tragedy. 

Ahmedabad Plane Crash: A wave of grief has swept across the globe following news of Air India flight AI171, en route to London, crashing shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport. The aircraft was carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members. The crash occurred near the Meghani Nagar area of the city. On board were 169 Indian and 53 British citizens, and the flight was headed to London’s Gatwick Airport. In addition to them, passengers from countries like Canada and Portugal were also aboard.

In the aftermath of the Ahmedabad plane crash, several countries, including the UK, Ukraine, Canada, and Russia, have responded.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the accident a “devastating scene” and expressed deep sorrow. On social media platform X, he wrote, “The news of the plane from Ahmedabad to London crashing is extremely saddening. Many British citizens were on board. I am closely monitoring the situation. My thoughts are with the victims and their families.”

UK Defence Minister David Lammy also expressed heartfelt condolences, saying, “Deeply saddened by the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts are with all those affected. The UK government is working with Indian authorities to gather facts and provide assistance.”

A Terrible Tragedy, Says President Volodymyr Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also offered his condolences on the tragic incident. He said, “Received terrible news of the passenger plane crash in India. My deepest sympathies to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India. We stand with the victims from India, the UK, Portugal, and Canada. Wishing a swift recovery to the injured.”
